Our Seller, Ricketstown Beef Shorthorns, is owned by Martin Kelly and his family, there are over 80 years of family-related Shorthorn breeding associated with Ricketstown Shorthorns. Martin's Grandfather, John Farrell won 22 championships in a 40 year period at Ireland's most Prestigious show the Royal Dublin Show. For the past 20 years, The Ricketstown herd has bred and exhibited many All Ireland titleholders, Tullamore Champions & it was a Ricketstown bred female who was crowned the 2019 Balmoral Champion. The depth of breeding and success continues to thrive at Ricketstown as they exhibited the 2021 All Ireland Female Champion at the Irish Shorthorn National show.   

Ricketstown Pilot is a young bull with huge potential. He has tremendous eye appeal with the pedigree to match. Sired by the powerhouse Elliot Matrix who has bred bulls to 13k and females to 7k. his dam is an outstanding young cow by Podehole Elite from one of the oldest cow families in the breed, the famous flossy line. Flossy Meg has never been shown (due to covid) but she is earmarked to make her debut this summer. Pilot has inherited his sire's growth, dams size and correctness rate with a DWG of 1.4kg from birth. his carcass figures are through the roof in fact on ICBF he is 6 times the breed average. while maintaining a very low calving figure of just 3%. he carries one copy of the myostatin gene e226x.
