Description

Meonside Pollard is a big, long, upstanding bull with a phenomenal growth rate and is very well fleshed.  He is in the top 1% of the breed for Terminal Sire index and Self-replacing Index.

His Sire MEONSIDE KING KONG, who is a maternal brother to the 27,000gns breed record holder Nidavellir.  He also goes back to Elliot Salute, who has bred tremendously well for the Meonside herd, selling sons to 11,000gns and daughters to 6,000gns.

His Dam MEONSIDE MISS RAMSDEN J  is off the Ballylinney lines that we purchased in 2015 from the Miss Ramsden family, who are a mainstay in the herd, with a half-sister to the dam of Pollard being reserve female champion at Stirling in October 2021, and selling for 5,000gns.

Pollard represents every ounce of the character in the Beef Shorthorn breed, a visual softness in appearance, soft natural muscle, one can imagine Pollard's female progeny to be maternal, with the frame to be easy calving, length to produce the prime beef cuts and milky to grow the beef. Any investment in a new bull adds value or takes value away from your cow's progeny. Pollard was created to add value, he is here to sell bid on, & bid on, fix your proxy bid, (max bid) imagine Pollard in your paddock, with your cows, imagine Pollard's progeny in your field, don't imagine any more, bid on and buy the son of King Kong & Miss Ramsden's boy! Bid on and bid last on Meonside Pollard.

Vendor profile:

Our sellers, D&T Bradley farmer started the Beef Shorthorn herd in 2006. The herd was established in the Meon Valley at Drayton Farm, Hampshire, by David and Tom’s grandfather and father, Frank Mofatt and Simon Bradley Farmer. The first cattle purchased were from the Layberry and Aylward herds, alongside the herd's first stock bull, purchased from Meonhill in the shape of Meonhill Snowman. One of the main parts of the herd's history was when Frank and David went to the Ballylinney production sale and purchased 12 Ballylinney females. Included in these were the mothers of 27k breed record holder Nidavellir, 12k Nosty, 11k Mufasa and many other high selling cattle. The herd's first visit to Stirling was in 2015 with 4 bulls averaging 6,500gns and topping at 9,000gns for Meonside Ganster, selling to the Knockenjig herd. Stirling has been a happy hunting ground for the herd, with other bulls selling up to 27k for the breed record, and other bulls selling for 13k, 12k, 11k and many other high prices. The herd is now based in Dumfries, after its move 4 years ago, and is now run day to day by Tom, alongside a flock of pedigree Texel ewes.
