Vendor profile:
Michael Tarpey is based in Elphin Co. Roscommon. He is an Artificial Inseminator with Progressive Genetics Ltd for over 30 years. Michael started his farming life breeding Commercial Show cattle and successfully sold all over Ireland and Northern Ireland. In 2009 the Boyanagh herd was established with foundation stock purchased from the Ansville dispersal sale and further purchases from the Cookstown herd. Michael, Mary and their family were attracted to the Limousin breed mainly for easy calving, hardy vigorous calves at birth and high fertility with the Limousin Dams.
The family had many show winners including genetics from their herd winning the Overall Commercial Champion in Balmoral Show. They also had many show winners at Sales and Agricultural Shows with the Dam of this bull “Boyanagh Janet” winning many Championships at Local and National Shows. This Dams last bull was sold to a commercial suckler farmer in Northern Ireland for over €5000. Janet is a consistent breeder of top stock for the herd. The Boyanagh herd breeds for easy calving, docility and shape to produce bulls for both suckler and pedigree breeders.
The herd is 100% AI with a keen interest in upgrading genetics over the years. AI bloodlines used on-farm, Ampertaine Foreman and Commander, Lodge Hamlet, Telfers Munster, E.B.Y, Elite Ice-cream and Fastrac.
